My intense love for candy, cakes, and everything in between started as a child. I simply couldn't go one day without something sweet to eat. But my love for all things sweet took a toll on my teeth. My dentist diagnosed me with seven cavities, each one a different size and depth. After sitting through four long dental appointments, I decided to make a change. I now monitor my diet and only eat things that benefit my oral health. I'm here to help you take better care of your teeth. My blog offers tips on how to improve your diet, maintain good oral hygiene, and many other topics. Hopefully, you can learn to overcome your bad habits just as I did. Good luck with your future dental health.

You may have a sense of relief when it comes to getting a dental filling. One thing that can happen is a tooth cracking, which will expose the filling. Once the filling and the tooth underneath is exposed, you may begin to feel pain, especially if the nerve underneath the tooth is exposed. If the nerve is exposed, you may feel pain when food, water, or even air hits the nerve. If you are having pain after a cracked tooth and filling, you will need to make a dental appointment immediately. If you have to wait for a day or two before your dental service, here is how you can live with the cracked tooth and the pain.
Get some painkillers over the counter
If you are able to get some painkillers from over the counter, these should help to keep away some of the throbbing pain from the tooth. Take the best painkillers that work for you. Be sure to read the direction so that you are not taking more than you should be administering. If your actual gums are hurting, you can also purchase an oral pain killer that you apply directly to the mouth. Be sure not to get this inside of the cracked tooth, because the tooth could be infected and this could exacerbate the issues.
Use a long straw when drinking
If the nerve is exposed or is able to be hit by water, drinking can become a painful task. In order to make sure that you are not dehydrated, get a straw to drink out of. If the crack is in one of your molars or your wisdom tooth, you should put the straw past these teeth and sip slowly. Taking slow, light sips will make sure that the water does not wash over your teeth to cause you any pain. Be sure to monitor your water intake so that your labored drinking will not cause your body dehydration.
Get pills for possible infection
Once your tooth cracks or chips, there is always the possibility of infection. If you begin to have pain in the gums, notice a change in your breath, or start to get a headache due to the dental pain, you may have an infection. Get checked out at a hospital to determine if you have a tooth infection. If you do have an infection, clearing it up can save your health and make sure that your dental problems do not become exacerbated.
